Academic Background

Matthew Goupell received his Bachelors degree in Physics and Mathematics from Hope College in Holland, MI.  For graduate school, he attended Michigan State University in Lansing, MI, where he received his Ph. D. in Physics.  He studied psychoacoustics under Dr. William Hartmann and wrote his dissertation on "The use of interaural parameters during incoherence detection in reproducible noise."

Current Research

Matthew is currently studying sound localization and the use of spectral cues for cochlear implant listeners.  He also investigates binaural phenomenon like interaural time difference and incoherence detection.

Hobbies

Matthew plays frisbee, directs a choir, and enjoys traveling around Europe.
