We congratulate our scientists Nicki Holighaus, Günther Koliander and Luis Daniel Abreu on the Dafx19 Best Paper Award. In their publication, they present an algorithm that renders it possible to recover the signal in high quality and with little effort from pure intensity information of a transformed signal. Why is that good? There are cases where only the intensity information is available and so you have no other option (such as in medical applications). In the audio application, however, which is the focus of the award-winning work, you can manipulate signals intuitively in the transformed area, in the simplest case, for example, change the pitch. However, these manipulations are done only for the intensity. Finally, to get back a high quality signal, an algorithm should be used that takes this fact into account, like the newly presented efficient PGHI algorithm.
