Friedrich Neubarth received his M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Vienna in 1992. He joined this institute in 1997 on a part-time basis while studying for his Ph.D. in Linguistics.
F. Neubarth's research concentrates on both theoretical linguistics (mainly syntax, semantics and phonology, especially the framework of Government Phonology) and natural language processing. The topic of his dissertation is the syntax of referential dependencies. With regard to natural language processing he is currently involved in a project on modelling segmental duration in Austrian German at the Austrian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence (ÖFAI).
