A PhD position (75%, 3 years) optimising numerical algorithms and acoustic models for head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) is available at the Austrian Academy of Sciences' Acoustics Research Institute (ARI) in Vienna, Austria.

The ARI is an interdisciplinary research institution offering the unique possibility to conduct
ground-breaking research in cooperation with scientists from different disciplines.

The position is available as part of the project "LocaPhoto" funded by the Austrian Science Fund
(FWF ). LocaPhoto is a multidisciplinary project focused on the development of a method to
numerically calculate perceptually valid HRTFs based on the visually retrieved geometry of a
listener. At ARI, the PhD candidate will be incorporated in the Physical and Computational
Acoustics group and work closely with the Psychoacoustics and Experimental Audiology group.
Within LocaPhoto, the candidate will deal with the optimization of numerical algorithms and
models for acoustics with the particular application in acoustic modeling of the head-related transfer
functions.

We are looking for applicants:

• with a master degree in audio engineering, technical mathematics or equivalent
• having experience with acoustic modeling
• bringing programming skills, especially in Matlab, C, and C++
• being able to integrate into a multidisciplinary research team, closely cooperating with
people working in the fields of psychoacoustics, numerical modeling and computer vision

The salary will be EUR 27.066,20 per year (w/o taxes), according to the personal cost rates of the
FWF (75% = 30 hours/week). The candidate is encouraged to participate in the Phd program of the
Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics, KUG, Graz. The position is aimed to start at the
beginning of April 2012 and the place of work is Vienna.

Applicants should submit a letter of application, copy of their university diplomas, and their
curriculum vitae by 10th of March 2012 to:
