SOFA is a file format for storing spatially oriented acoustic data like head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) and binaural or directional room impulse responses (BRIRs, DRIRs). SOFA results from a collaborative work of many institutions world-wide, with Piotr Majdak (ARI, OeAW) as the project leader. For example, the ARI HRTF database is publicly available as SOFA files.

sofacoustics.org, also accessible as sofaconventions.org, provides a Wiki-based system with SOFA-relevant information. Not only specifications of SOFA, but also a list of file repositories and a discussion board for future requests and improvements are available.
